Looking for a fun, no-pressure way to try improv? Our drop-in improv classes in Melbourne run every week in Richmond. They're open to everyone – whether you're a complete beginner or just looking to play.
Each session is a standalone workshop focused on spontaneity, creativity, and connection. No auditions. No scripts. Just show up and play. We create a welcoming space for new voices and returning players alike.

Do I need to book? Yes! Booking is required to secure your spot, but all you gotta do is fill out the form on this page :)
What should I bring? Comfortable clothes, water, and an open mind.
Where is it held? Jack Dyer Community Room, Richmond. Plenty of free parking around!
But what actually is improv? Improv is unscripted, spontaneous theatre and comedy. You make it up as you go – no lines to memorise, no right or wrong. It’s about listening, reacting, and creating something new in the moment. It can be funny, moving, chaotic or quiet – and it’s always different

About your teacher
Greg Lavell has been an active performer, director, and teacher in Melbourne’s vibrant improv scene since 2010. As a performer, Greg won a prestigious Green Room Award in 2024 for his work in Melbourne Unscripted’s show Cabaret Unscripted.
Greg has performed, directed and music-directed comedy and theatre productions with ‘Impro Melbourne’, ‘Impromptunes’, ‘The Big Hoo-Haa’ and ‘The Improv Conspiracy’, as well as performing interstate, and in the U.K, performing and teaching improv at festivals.
As the founder Melbourne Unscripted, he is dedicated to nurturing the creativity of improvising artists and developing innovative improv techniques. Greg’s expertise spans theatre, musical theatre, cabaret, and improvised music, making him uniquely qualified to guide beginners through the world of improv.
His approach to teaching emphasises playfulness, collaboration, and exploring your unique perspective in a relaxed and supportive environment.
